Howard was left to give leadership to the family when his father died.  He became one of the pillars of the St. Martinville community, was Postmaster General, a business man, and served in numerous civic leadership positions.  His son Paul followed in his father's footsteps in that he too became a leader in the St. Martinville community, an officer of a bank, and a proud father.  Mr. Stoughton was a neighbor down the street from us in Pasadena, Texas.  He, his wife Helen Marie, and my parents were great and loyal friends.  I grew up with one of their sons.
