Album # 7: Our December Trek to Florida - 2004
Helen and I took a trip
to Florida from December 10-17, 2004. Brother Richard (flying from Houston)
met us in the Orlando airport baggage area precicely 8 minutes after
we arrived. I had a bet with him that
we would arrive first even though his flight was scheduled to arrive
45 minutes before ours. We got our trusty Alamo rent-a-car and headed
for our timeshare "villa" at the Whyndam Palms Resort in Kississime,
arriving a few minutes after midnight. The resort is just minutes from
Disney World. The day Richard was to leave, we visited the lovely Thorton city park near Orlando's downtown. I got to see some actual living, floating swans real close. Helen and I took a trip to the Merrit Island Wildlife Preserve one day. Genie had told us the waterfowl there were really fabulous this time of year. We love wildlife, especially birds, and this trek turned out to be the highlight of our whole trip. Merritt island was established by the U.S. Government in conjunction with the NASA spaceflight program. We also went to Canaveral Seashore. It was so cool seeing so many species in their natural habitats. Thursday we took a longer trip to the west coast of Florida and visited the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park where 8 or 9 manatee and many other animals have a home. Helen really wanted to see the manatee. I guess she feels some kind of special connection with these animals. We finished off that day with Cirque du Soleil La Nouba at Downtown Disney. We were both so exhausted we were a tad distracted, but the show was incredible. Below you will see thumbnail links to pages where you can see photos of our trip. Let me know what you think or if you have any problems seeing or loading the photos.
