Purpose
To help all the Durand descendants (and their children) know what to look out for in the future regarding their health, and to share information that might be helpful in coping with or testing for the disease or condition
Background
Your cousin, Bill Reed in Lafayette, La. has suggested that it might be helpful for Durand descendants to share some details of our families' medical histories to help us and our children know what health or medical conditions to look out for in the future.
Bill's son contracted an extremely rare disease when he was 12 years old, Juvenile Dermatomyositus, which is an autoimmune disease in the Rheumatoid Arthritis "family" of diseases. While it is incurable, it is controllable with medication and his son is living a normal life. He has spoken with other cousins who have related similar stores of their children having extremely rare diseases also that were only diagnosed after much testing and trial and error.
For this reason, Bill and others in the family believe it might be a valuable service to share such information amongst ourselves.
How This Information Could Helpful
Family members could see what they might have in common and maybe share treatment, cures, etc. that have been helpful to their families. This would be done with the permission of both the provider of the information and the person inquiring.
How Do We Do This? Your Ideas Needed
We need to know what your wishes are about how and what to post on the Medical History page(s) of the website. For example, the information could be posted anonymously. We could code the postings and Glenn Currier or Bill Reed could retain a master list with codes that could be accessed with permission of the provider of the information if someone wants to contact them. Please send your ideas to Glenn Currier (webmaster) and/or Bill Reed (Reunion Treasurer).
What About Privacy?
All pages containing information about specific family history will be on our "Family-Only" pages and will be password protected. I have begun our non-public medical history pages with a few entries. Take a look and let me know if you have additions and/or corrections.
