Teche News story about the reunion The first Oscar and Felicie DeBlanc Durand Family Reunion was held November 25, 2006 at Magnolia City Park in St. Martinville, La. There were 267 Descendants of Oscar and Felicie DeBlanc Durand in attendance, including five from France. Oscar Durand was one of twenty four children born to Charles Durand of Oak and Pine Alley fame. Everyone enjoyed visiting with their cousins, many who had traveled from as far away as Virginia, California, Colorado, Texas and other states to attend the reunion. A catered meal was enjoyed by all. There were games and activities for the children and door prizes were given out through out the day. The Durand descendants enjoyed visiting with their cousins, some of whom they had never met before the day of the reunion. Family Stories were exchanged during a "storytelling" session and cousins were encouraged to input their family's history on a laptop computer set up at the reunion by one of the cousins from France. The Durand Family History was told in the form of a Skit performed by some of the younger Durand cousins. Memorabilia were collected from those present for placement in a time capsule intending to be buried somewhere at the old home site to be opened in 25 years when the next reunion is tentatively scheduled. The first Oscar and Felicie DeBlanc Durand Reunion will be fondly remembered by all who attended. | ||
