A Poem By: Chris Sorrenti

 ART IN A HAND BAG

every morning she creates
on the bus to work
her face a living canvas
by the time we hit downtown
always the same masterpiece

each step in the process
a reach into her purse
with compact mirror carefully aimed
meticulously she applies
the right ingredients

an equal proportion of blush
expertly rubbed into cheeks
subtle shade of lipstick
not a spot missed
just enough eyeliner and shadow
to accentuate

by now she knows
every bump and curve in the road
when to pause
for fear of smudging her life’s work

from part-time mom to business lady
in twenty minutes flat
most on the bus
too groggy to notice
save this artist of a different kind
… also busy
