A Poem By: Chris Sorrenti

 FOR THE CRITIC (including myself)

do you also question
the creator’s choice of pattern
on butterfly wing?
considering the repugnant larva
from which it transforms

or perhaps
the form and symmetry
of spider’s web?
factoring in what purpose
it was designed for

and what of the Blue Jay
feeding on both?
visually
a most attractive bird
until its shrill cry
pierces your morning sleep

even the lowly earthworm
has its place
loosening the soil
for plants to flourish
that we humans admire
as flowers
grassy turf to walk upon
while others we will eat

and just as it’s incapable
of imagining
creatures such as us
above the dew line
neither have we the means
to visualize
the true face of God

and in this
imperfection
carries a beauty all its own
if only in the promise
of greater things
